For egalitarian practices in the workplace, Henry Schein Inc. of Melville, New York earned a perfect score on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) administered by the nonprofit advocacy group Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation.
As the nation’s largest civil rights organization, according to its website, HRC strives for equality in the LGBTQ sector from its hub in Washington, D.C.
“HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work, and in every community,” officials said.
The 2018 CEI evaluated 947 businesses for compliance with non-discrimination policies, partner benefits including health care, competency initiatives and community engagement. Spokespersons attested to Henry Schein’s eligibility as well as citing it as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.
Henry Schein’s Chairman of the Board and CEO Stanley Bergman expressed pride in the designation, describing the company as deeply committed to cultural diversity.
"We have long understood that our success depends as much on our differences as our commonalities, and we believe that fostering a workplace environment that values diversity and inclusion only serves to strengthen our commitment to the needs and goals of every Team Schein Member," Bergman said.
Henry Schein provides health care items and resources to practitioners in the dental, veterinary and medical fields, as well as dental laboratories, institutions and government facilities.
